Currency in Australia
Australia's currency is the Australian dollar. Changing money is generally
very easy, and tourists will be able to do so at banks throughout the country,
or, in major centres, at licensed money changers. Travellers cheques are very
easy to exchange, and these generally get a much better exchange rate than cash,
although changing them at a bank will entail paying a commission. These vary
from bank to bank, so it's best to shop around.
Major credit cards are widely accepted throughout the country, and ATM's are
almost everywhere, making use of the debit card a viable option as well. There
are no notable restrictions on bringing cash or travellers cheques into the
country, but amounts over $500 must be declared upon arrival. |
